Aluminum and copper prices reached all-time highs early this month on the London Metal Exchange (LME) before receding the past 10 days.
The LME three-month aluminum contract closed the May 20 session at $2,392, off 7.2% from its $2,532 high on May 10, and up 61% from a year ago. The benchmark contract had previously peaked in January 2020 peak before shedding more than 20% by May 2020 and beginning its current run.
The LME three-month copper contract closed the May 20 session at $10,086, off 6.3% from its $10,724.50 high on May 10, and up 53% from a year ago. The May 10 LME close was copper’s highest mark since February 2011.
